The Office of the Staff Judge Advocate Advocate (OSJA) offers legal assistance which includes wills, powers of attorney, advanced health/medical care directives, and notaries (to learn more about these documents and how they can help please visit this website Estate Planning.
Services are available to all California National Guard (CNG) servicemembers, their dependents and retired military personnel.
Note: We cannot provide assistance with criminal matters, rebuttals, trusts, or domestic disputes. If you are a member of the CNG or the California State Guard (CSG), the CSG Legal Command may be able to provide limited custodial dispute guidance, please reach out by clicking CONTACT US at CA State Guard JAG Corps Website.
Things to consider and discuss with your spouse or family members before requesting an appointment, include:
- Deciding whom you want to appoint as an executor of your will and how you want to dispose of your property.
- Deciding who will be designated to make decisions regarding your medical care in the event you become incapacitated.
- Deciding if you should give power of attorney to a friend or family member. This allows a person you choose to sign documents and take actions on your behalf.
- If you have minor children, whether you need a power of attorney to care for your children in your absence. (Either through a family care plan POA or special power of attorney)
