The California Army National Guard G1 Records Department can only process records up to the year 2010. Any records requests after 2010 should be directed to Enlisted Personnel Management (EPM) at their group inbox: ng.ca.caarng.mbx.jfhq-g1-epd@army.mil or at their mailing address below:

If you are submitting a request on behalf of a service member, you will be asked to provide additional documentation. If the service member is deceased, you will asked to provide a copy of a death certificate. Any spouses will be asked to provide a marriage certificate as well and any next of kin will be required to submit a copy of their birth certificate. If you are a third party, such as a legal guardian or authorized representative, you will be asked to provide an Authorization Letter or a Power of Attorney. If you served in the California Army National Guard, you can request records by submitting an SF 180 Military Records Request Form to the following email: paulina.v.villanueva.nfg@army.mil. You may also submit your request to our mailing address:

We do not currently have fax capabilities.
Your request must contain certain basic information for us to locate your documents. This information includes: the veteran’s complete name used while in service, your social security number, date of birth, approximate date of discharge, a mailing address or email, and a signature. If you fail to provide these details, your request will not be processed
The turnaround time for records requests is 2-3 weeks. Some of our records only exist on film. All our film records are stored at an off-site facility, and we must request that these records be delivered to us. Delivery can take anywhere from 2-5 days.
Once requests have been processed, they will either be sent out via FedEx 2-day shipping or electronically through DoD SAFE. Instructions on how to open the DoD SAFE drop-off will be provided via email.
Medical records must be requested from our State Surgeon’s Office. They can be reached at their group inbox: ng.ca.caarng.mbx.sso@army.mil or you can reach out to them via mail at:

If you did not serve in the California Army National Guard, we will not have your records. All other records requests must go through the National Archives and Records Administration. Requests can be made via their website: Archives Military Service Records or if you prefer to mail them the SF180, their mailing address is as follows:

The California Army National Guard Records Department does not provide the benefits; we can help you obtain the copies of the Military Service Record or other proof of service you will need to prove eligibility.
