Chief Master Sergeant Michael L. Hunt

Chief Master Sergeant Michael L. Hunt is the State Command Chief Master Sergeant for the California Air National Guard, Joint Force Headquarters, Sacramento, California. He serves over 4200 Airmen in 5 Wings and 10 operating locations, while advising the Commander, California Air National Guard on all matters including readiness, training, professional development, and effective utilization of personnel and resources.

Chief Hunt began his military career on August 6, 1985, when he enlisted with the United States Air Force. Upon completion of Basic Training and Ground Radio Operator Technical School, Chief Hunt was assigned to the 2160th Communications Squadron at Royal Air Force Fairford, United Kingdom. There his responsibilities included operating a High Frequency Radio Station ensuring vital command and control communications for the 7020th Air Base Group and the 11th Strategic Group. In April 1986, Chief Hunt provided mission critical High Frequency Radio support for Operation EL DORADO CANYON. Also during this tour he performed Combat Crew Communications duties supporting the European Tanker Task Force of KC-135 and KC-10 aircraft forward deployed to locations in England, Iceland, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. He also supported periodic forward deployments of B-52 aircraft to Europe. Upon completion of Active Duty, Chief Hunt enlisted in May 1990 with the California Air National Guard, 162nd Combat Communication Group, North Highlands Air National Guard Station, California. In July 1990, Chief Hunt was assigned to the Headquarters, California Air National Guard as a Personnel Specialist. In February 1994, Chief Hunt was assigned to the State Human Resources Office and served in positions of increasing responsibility culminating in May 2009 as the J1 Superintendent. There he was responsible for full-time personnel management affecting over 2,300 Army and Air National Guard technicians and over 500 Active Guard Reserve Airmen. Beginning in 1997, Chief Hunt participated in numerous Partnership for Peace Program and State Partnership Program events, including military support to civilian authority exercise events to Chiguiv, Ukraine in May 2000 and to Yavoriv, Ukraine in May 2003. Chief Hunt further supported disaster relief and recovery response efforts for Hurricane Katrina in Operation GULF COAST RELIEF in 2005. In September 2011, Chief Hunt was assigned as the Personnel Superintendent, Headquarters, California Air National Guard, Sacramento, California. In January 2016, Chief Hunt was deployed as the Superintendent, 386th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait directly supporting Operations INHERENT RESOLVE and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL. In September 2016, Chief Hunt served as the Group Superintendent, 129th Maintenance Group, 129th Rescue Wing, Moffett Air National Guard Base, California. Prior to his current position, Chief Hunt was the Command Chief Master Sergeant, 195th Wing, Beale Air Force Base, California.
