COL Robert C. Horvath
Colonel Robert C. Horvath assumed duties as Chief of Staff, California Army National Guard on 1 June 2024. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant through Officer Candidate School in 1998. COL Horvath has completed the Armor Basic Course, Armor Officer Advanced Course, Intermediate Level Education, Training Management Course, and the U.S. Army War College. His civilian education includes a Bachelors of Economics from California State University, San Bernardino, California and a Masters in Strategic Studies from the Army War College.
COL Horvath’s previous assignments include Armor Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, Armor Company Executive Officer, Battalion Maintenance Officer, Company Commander, Instructor and TAC Officer at Officer Candidate School. COL Horvath mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and transitioned into the AGR program in 2010 after his return. His Field Grade assignments include: State Training Officer; HHD Commander-Joint Forces Headquarters; S3, 1-184th Infantry, Executive Officer, 1-184th Infantry; Deputy Brigade Commander, 223rd Regional Training Institute; Commander, 3-223rd Regional Training Institute; Commander, Camp Roberts Garrison Training Center; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations and Training, California Army National Guard.
COL Horvath’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal w/ Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Medal, Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/Bronze Hourglass & M device, Southwest Asia Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Military Volunteer Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, and German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge.
COL Horvath and his wife, Shannon Horvath, have one son, Thomas Horvath. They reside in Auburn, California..
