COL Anthony K Bangloy

COL Anthony Bangloy currently serves as the Commander, 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and full-time AGR as the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations for the California Army National Guard. He enlisted in the California Army National Guard in 1994. After serving as a Platoon Sergeant during Operation Noble Eagle with B CO, 3rd Battalion, 160th Infantry, he attended Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Infantry Lieutenant in 2003. COL Bangloy holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of California at Davis, Master’s in History with Honors from American Military University, Master’s in Business for Veterans from the University of Southern California, Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and a Doctorate in Education (EdD) from the University of Southern California.

COL Bangloy began his career as a Bradley Platoon Leader with B Company, 3rd Battalion, 160th Infantry (Mechanized). He then served as the Reconnaissance Platoon Leader with Headquarters & Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry (Air Assault) “Nightstalkers” during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following this, COL Bangloy took on the role of Executive Officer for A Company, 1-185th Combined Arms Battalion (CAB). He was later assigned as Operations Officer to the 1498th Heavy Equipment Transportation Company, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom 08-09. Upon his return from deployment, COL Bangloy served as the S3 Air for the 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry. He subsequently commanded two companies: E Company, 40th Brigade Support Battalion (IN), and B Company, 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry. COL Bangloy then moved to the 185th Military Police Battalion, where he served as the Battalion S3 and later as the Executive Officer. He returned to the 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry as the Executive Officer, deploying with the unit to Jordan. Upon their return, he took command of the 1st Battalion, 160th Infantry “Blackjacks.” Following Battalion Command, COL Bangloy served as the Executive Officer to the Adjutant General, and then Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations prior to assuming command of the Brigade.

COL Bangloy deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM twice, once in 2005 as a Reconnaissance Platoon Leader, and again as an Operations Officer in 2008-2009. He also deployed in support of Operation SPARTAN SHIELD to Jordan in 2017-2018 as the Battalion Executive Officer for the Jordan Operational Engagement Program. COL Bangloy is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Pathfinder School, Mechanized Leader Course, Transportation Captain’s Career Course, Military Police Transition Course, Command and General Staff College, Advanced Operations Course, Defense Strategy Course, Defense Planner Course, Harvard Leadership in Homeland Security Seminar and the U.S. Army War College (JPME II).

COL Bangloy’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 3 Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal with Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Ribbon, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Master Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge Air Assault Badge, Order of Saint Maurice (Centurion) and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.

COL Bangloy is an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) Officer assigned to the state Headquarters in Rancho Cordova, California. He is married to Rose and has three children: Hailie (25), Anthony (23), Luke (20) and one dog, Momo.
