It is with deepest sympathy that we announce the death of Staff Sergeant Paul Christian Neubauer, age 40. Staff Sergeant Neubauer died as a result of an IED and small arms fire in Baghdad, Iraq on 23 September 2005. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, his father and a sister.
Staff Sergeant Neubauer began his military service in April of 1986 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1991 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Staff Sergeant Neubauer was discharged from the U.S. Navy Reserve in November of 1993. He entered the California Army National Guard in 1997 and served with Troop H, 1st Squadron, 18th Cavalry and elements of the 1st Battalion, 184th Infantry (AASLT). In 1999 Staff Sergeant Neubauer joined Team Shield Counter Drug and continued working with them until his mobilization. He enjoyed his service in Iraq, believed in the mission, and treasured working and interacting with the local populace. Staff Sergeant Neubauer was known by his peers and supervisors for being a hard working team player, selfless in his duties and personal affairs, and being able to make others laugh.
