It is with deepest sympathy that I announce the death of staff Sergeant Jose Rangel, age 43, on 23 January 2005. Staff Sergeant Rangel died unexpectedly while serving with his unit at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait. He is survived by his wife Noemi and sons Randy, Michael and Andrew.
Staff Sergeant Rangel joined Company A, 3/185th Armor, California Army National Guard, on 3 August 1988. He was a prior service veteran, having previously served over six years in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to his military knowledge as a wireman, he was also invaluable for his language skills and worked as an interpreter for the 1106th AVCRAD while they were on training at the Mexican Defense Forces to repair UH-1 helicopters. Staff Sergeant Rangel subsequently became a full-time AGR Soldier as the supply sergeant in the 1106th AVCRAD. On 21 September 2004 he was mobilized his unit in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Staff Sergeant Rangel was a respected NCO who was widely known for his professionalism, devotion to Army values, and love of family. He was extremely proud to be a member of the 1106th AVCRAD and he will long be remembered for his service.
