It is with deepest sympathy that the California National Guard announces the death of Staff Sergeant David Perry, 649th Military Police Company, on 11 August 2003, at the age of 36 in Balad, Iraq. He is survived by his wife and three children.
Staff Sergeant Perry is the first California National Guard soldier to die during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was an experienced and respected soldier, having previously served our country during Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia. Fellow soldiers have noted he was unselfish, dedicated and proud to be a citizen soldier.
