It is with deepest sympathy that the California National Guard announces the death of Specialist Eric Ramirez, age 31, as a result of combat operations in Abu Gireb, Iraq, on 12 February 2004. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Specialist Ramirez joined the California Army National Guard on 13 April 1999. He had previously served on active duty with the United States Navy from January 1992 to January 1996 as an electrician’s mate. During this period of service he was awarded the Naval Reserve Sea Service Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal. After completing his active duty he remained in San Diego and was employed by the Sheriff’s Department as a field service officer. His unit, the 670th Military Police Company was mobilized on 24 January 2003 to support Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq. Specialist Ramirez was an outstanding soldier, and a respected and proficient military policeman.
