It is with deepest sympathy that the California National Guard announces the death of Sergeant Shakere T. Guy, age 23, on 29 October 2005. He is survived by his mother, and sister who he cherished dearly.
Sergeant Guy was born on 18 July 1982 in Kingston, Jamaica. SGT Guy entered the California National Guard on 22 June 2000 as a tanker with Troop A, 1-18th CAV which was home stationed in Pomona, California. He joined Delta Company, 1-184 Infantry on 03 November 2004 to partake in Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06. He was attached to the PSYOPS Detachment as a M1114 gunner in June. Although his assignment was not armor, he took every opportunity to tell Soldiers how proud he was to be a tanker. He had a fondness for computers and enjoyed Southern California’s night life. SGT Guy resided in Pomona where he was both employed by Home depot and a full-time student.
SGT Guy’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal with second award, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Action Badge, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar and Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device.
